WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's soccer team was selected to finish eighth in the 2012 Patriot League preseason poll as voted on by head coaches and sports information directors from around the league. Defending Patriot League champion, Colgate, was selected as the preseason favorite with 91 points, including nine first place votes. Army (84 points, three first place votes), Navy (81 points, four first place votes) and Lafayette (60 points), all qualifying members of the 2011 Patriot League tournament, round out the top four teams in the preseason standings. Lehigh was selected fifth with 49 points, Bucknell sixth with 36 points, American seventh with 33 points and Holy Cross eighth with 14 points to finish out the poll.
The Crusaders return 18 players from last year's squad and welcome four newcomers to the team. Holy Cross kicks off the 2012 season on Sunday, August 19 with a 7:00 p.m. game here at Holy Cross at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium against Wagner.
