Women’s Soccer Falls To Brown, 1-0

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's soccer team lost a 1-0 decision to Brown earlier this evening. After tonight's action, the Crusaders are now 2-11-2 (0-4-0 Patriot League) on the season while Brown moves to an overall record of 9-4-1.

The match remained scoreless through the first half, much in part due to several tricky saves by junior goalkeeper Ashlyn Angell (Raleigh, N.C.).

Brown scored the eventual game-winner in the 54th minute when Eliza Marshall chipped a loose ball into the Holy Cross goal from 20 yards out.

The best scoring opportunity for the Crusaders came in the 67th minute when freshman Gina Righini (Salem, N.H.) funneled a nifty flick pass to senior Liz Early (Rockville Centre, N.Y.). Early was able to get a clean strike on the ball but her shot was saved by the Brown goalkeeper with a dive to her left.

Despite the loss, Angell played a strong game in goal for the Crusaders, recording 10 saves off 11 Brown shots on goal. The Crusaders had four shots on the evening, three of which were on goal.

Holy Cross resumes Patriot League play on Friday, Oct. 21 when the Crusaders travel to Washington, D.C. for a match against American. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
