Holy Cross Women’s Suffers 1-0 Heartbreaker To Army

WORCESTER, Mass. – In a game played down to the wire, the Holy Cross women's soccer team was unable to come out on top, falling to Army 1-0 in Patriot League action Friday night. With the loss, the Crusaders end the season with an overall record of 3-12-2 (0-6-1 Patriot League). The Black Knights' win gives them home field advantage for the upcoming Patriot League Tournament, as they improve to 13-3-3 overall and remain unbeaten in league play (4-0-3).

The game was scoreless for the first 89 minutes and 35 seconds, until Army's Erringer Helbling found the back of the net. After a flurry of Holy Cross shots on goal, the ball quickly moved up the field. Helbling took a shot from beyond the box and scored in the top left corner to give the Black Knights the 1-0 lead and win.

Holy Cross keepers, senior Mary Ferketic (West Hartford, Conn.) and Ashlyn Angell (Raleigh, N.C.), combined for time in goal, with Angell suffering the loss. Ferketic made one save, while Angell recorded four. Army's keeper Alex Lostetter earned her eighth win of the season, allowing no goals and recording three saves.

Holy Cross wrapped up the season by honoring its three seniors, Jenna Campagna (Berlin, Conn.), Ferketic and Shelby Stand (Douglas, Mass.), prior to the start of the game.
