LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Holy Cross women's soccer team scored the first and last goals of the game Sunday afternoon, but it was not enough to overcome Bucknell's offense, as the Crusaders fell 3-2 in Patriot League action. With the loss, Holy Cross falls to 3-11-2 (0-5-1 Patriot League), while the Bison move into a tie for first place in the league with a 4-2-0 Patriot League record (6-12-0 overall).
Sophomore Hannah Earner (Pembroke, Mass.) scored her first goal of the season just over 28 minutes into the first half when she dribbled around Bucknell goaltender Sandita McDermott to score on the open net. Bucknell tied the game just before the half time mark when Kelliann Doherty took advantage of a corner kick by Caitlin Holtz to score her second goal of the season.
Bucknell took a 2-1 lead just over three minutes into the second half on a goal by Tara Cort. The Bison went ahead by two goals at the 74:52 mark when Doherty scored her second goal of the game. Sophomore Maura Fox (Shrewsbury, Mass.) netted her third goal of the season less than three minutes later to bring Holy Cross within one, but the Crusaders were unable to score again, falling to the Bison 3-2.
Sophomore Ashlyn Angell (Raleigh, N.C.) made the start in net for the Crusaders, allowing three goals and making five saves on 16 Bucknell shots. McDermott allowed two goals on 12 Holy Cross shots and recorded four saves.
Holy Cross will host its last game of the season on Friday, Oct. 29 against Patriot League opponent, Army. Prior to the 7:00 p.m. start, the Crusaders will honor the seniors for their hard work and dedication to the Holy Cross women's soccer program.
