WORCESTER, Mass. – American's Kendra Jones scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 66th minute to lead the Eagles to a 1-0 Patriot League victory over the Holy Cross women's soccer team Friday night. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 3-6-2 overall and suffer their first Patriot League loss of the season (0-1-1), while the Eagle improve to 5-9-0 and pick up their first league win (1-1-0).

Jones scored the lone goal of the game when she recovered her own blocked free kick. The Holy Cross defense stood strong and blocked Jones' free kick, only for her to recover the ball and score in the upper left corner over the head of sophomore keeper Ashlyn Angell (Raleigh, N.C.). Jones' goal proved to be all the offense needed for the win, as Holy Cross was shut out for the third consecutive game.

Angell recorded one save on five American shots, while American goalkeeper Lindsey Farthing made three saves on seven Holy Cross shots. American marked eight fouls to Holy Cross' seven, while both teams earned a corner kick.

Holy Cross will continue Patriot League action on Sunday, Oct. 10 when it hosts Navy at 1:00 p.m. at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium.
