Womens Soccer Plays Lafayette To 0-0 Overtime Draw
WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's soccer team couldn't find a way past Patriot League opponent Lafayette Saturday afternoon, as the Crusaders played the Leopards to a 0-0 draw in double overtime. With the tie, Holy Cross moves to 3-4-2 overall (0-0-1 Patriot League) and the Leopards move to 6-5-1 overall (0-0-1 Patriot League).
The game was evenly matched through the first 90 minutes of play, as the Crusaders recorded 12 shots to the Leopards' 11. Senior keeper Mary Ferketic (West Hartford, Conn.) recorded four saves in regulation and Lafayette's keeper Lauren Smedley had eight.
The defensive stalemate continued in to overtime action, with the Leopards recording four shots to the Crusaders' two. Ferketic kept the Leopard off the scoreboard with three saves in overtime. Holy Cross was unable to find the back of the net on 14 total shots, eight on goal, while the Leopards came up scoreless on 15 shots, seven on goal. Ferketic ended the day with seven saves and Smedley recorded eight.
Holy Cross will travel to non-league opponent Brown on Tuesday, Oct. 5 for a 5:00 p.m. mid-week matchup.
