Holy Cross Women’s Soccer Falls To Siena, 2-1

WORCESTER, Mass.  – The Holy Cross women's soccer team out shot Siena 14-11, including eight shots on goal, but couldn't come up with the victory, falling 2-1 to the Saints on Friday night. With the loss, Holy Cross falls to 2-4-1, while Siena remains undefeated at 7-0-0.

The Saints scored just over 30 minutes into the first half when Ashleigh Barone recovered a loose ball and converted her fourth goal of the season. Siena then went ahead 2-0 at the 64:01 mark when Shannon Clancy converted a corner kick by Caitlin Cahalan. Holy Cross cut the Saints' lead in half when senior Shelby Stand (Douglas, Mass.) recovered a goal kick and scored on the open net. Holy Cross fought hard in the final minutes, but was unable to score, falling 2-1 to the Saints.

Senior goalkeeper Mary Ferketic (West Hartford, Conn.) allowed two goals on 11 Siena shots and recorded three saves. Siena keeper Elizabeth Barna allowed one goal on 14 Holy Cross shots and made seven saves.

Holy Cross will host Rider in non-conference action at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 26 at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium.
