Holy Cross Women’s Soccer Falls At Central Connecticut, 3-2

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – The Holy Cross women's soccer team came from behind to tie the game, 2-2, heading into halftime, but didn't score again as it fell to Central Connecticut, 3-2, Tuesday evening in New Britain, Conn. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 1-1 overall, while the Blue Devils improve to 1-2 on the season.

Central Connecticut took a quick 2-0 lead when Kerriann Welch scored her first two goals of the season before the 10 minute mark in the first half. Holy Cross cut into the Blue Devil lead at the 17:23 mark in the first half when senior Shelby Stand (Douglas, Mass.) scored her first goal of the season. Just over two minutes later, sophomore Maura Fox (Shrewsbury, Mass.) converted a corner kick to score her second goal of the season and tie the game 2-2. The game stayed tied at two goals apiece until the 57:44 mark in the second half when CCSU's Beth Lloyd headed in the game-winning goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Ashlyn Angell (Raleigh, N.C.) suffered her first loss of the season, falling to 1-1. Angell allowed three goals and recorded one save. CCSU's Nikola Deiter earned her first win of the year, allowing two goals and recording five saves.

Holy Cross returns to the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium on Friday, Sept. 3 for a 7:00 p.m. game against New Hampshire.
