WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's soccer team was selected to sixth in the 2010 Patriot League preseason poll as voted on by head coaches and sports information directors from around the league. Defending Patriot League champion, Colgate, was selected as the preseason favorite with 92 points, including 11 first place votes. Navy (77 points, one first place vote), Bucknell (76 points, three first place votes) and American (68 points, one first place vote), all qualifying members of the 2009 Patriot League tournament, round out the top four teams in the preseason standings. Lehigh was selected fifth with 46 points, Holy Cross sixth with 41 points, Army seventh with 33 points and Lafayette eighth with 15 points to finish out the poll.
The Crusaders return 15 players from last year's squad and welcome nine newcomers to the team. Holy Cross kicks off the 2010 season on Friday, August 27 with a 7:00 p.m. game at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium against Rhode Island.
