Women's Soccer Falls To Army, 2-1

WEST POINT, N.Y. - Senior Shelby Stand (Douglas, Mass.) scored her 10th goal of the season, but couldn't lead the Holy Cross women's soccer team past the Army Black Knights, falling 2-1 Saturday evening in West Point, N.Y. With the loss, Holy Cross concludes the season 7-9-3 (1-5-1 Patriot League) and Army wraps up the year at 7-10-2 (2-4-1 Patriot League).

Army got on the board first when Candice Bryan scored just seven minutes into the game to give the Black Knights the 1-0 lead. Stand evened the score in the waning minutes of the first half when she received a pass from fellow senior Chelsi Pugliesi (Pembroke, Mass.) and scored her tenth goal in the right side of the net. Army took the lead for good at the 66:48 mark in the second half when Christine O'Leary scored her first goal of the season.

Junior goalkeeper Mary Ferketic (West Hartford, Conn.) allowed two goals on 11 Army shots, making two saves. Army goalkeeper Brittany Fearnside allowed one goal, making ten saves on 27 Holy Cross shots.

The Crusaders have concluded the 2009 season.
