Crusaders Set For Final Patriot League Game

  • The Holy Cross women's soccer team (7-8-3 overall, 1-4-1 Patriot League) wraps up the 2009 season on the road against Patriot League opponent Army (6-10-2 overall, 1-4-1 Patriot League) on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 7:00 p.m. The teams share identical Patriot League records, with each team defeating Lafayette. The winner of Saturday's game will finish the season in sixth place in the Patriot League. Last season, Holy Cross fell to Army, 1-0, in Worcester on Oct. 17. Holy Cross is 4-14-3 against Army with games dating back to 1986.
  • This season, the Black Knights have only scored 12 goals compared to the Crusaders' 24. Holy Cross is led by senior Shelby Stand (Douglas, Mass.) who scored her ninth goal of the season on Sunday, Oct. 25 against Bucknell. Stand ranks second in the Patriot League with 0.53 goals per game and is fourth in shots and points per game. Stand's nine goals ties her for sixth all-time at Holy Cross. Her 21 career goals rank her sixth in the Holy Cross record book.  
  • With losses against Colgate and Bucknell last week, Holy Cross was eliminated from participating in the Patriot League tournament. Bucknell, Colgate, Navy and American all earned bids to the tournament with a site yet to be determined.
  • Sophomore Katherine Donnelly (Londonderry, N.H.) leads the Patriot League with eight assists. Donnelly has connected with Stand on four goals this season. On Sunday against Bucknell, Donnelly recorded her eighth assist of the season and tied the Holy Cross single-season record list
