Women's Soccer Falls To Bucknell, 3-1

WORCESTER, Mass. - A goal by senior Shelby Stand (Douglas, Mass.) tied the game, but the Holy Cross women's soccer team couldn't fend off the Bucknell Bison, falling 3-1 on Sunday afternoon in Worcester, Mass. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 7-8-3 overall and 1-4-1 in the Patriot League, while the Bison improve to 10-6-1 overall and 5-1-0 in the Patriot League.

Bucknell wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, taking the 1-0 advantage at the 2:53 mark in the first half when Christa Matlack scored an unassisted goal in the right corner of the net. Holy Cross tied the game at the 9:18 mark when Stand received a pass from sophomore Katherine Donnelly (Londonderry, N.H.) and scored her ninth goal of the season to tie the game, 1-1. The Bison took the lead at the 25:11 mark when Chelsea McGorry scored the eventual game winner. Matlack scored again for the Bison at the 50:09 mark to secure the win for Bucknell, 3-1.

Senior keeper Jessica Stone (Rockville, Md.) made the start in net for the Crusaders, allowing two goals and making three saves. Junior Mary Ferketic (West Hartford, Conn.) entered the game in the second half, allowing one goal and making one save. Bucknell keeper Kathryn Sutton guarded the goal the entire 90 minutes, allowing one goal and making two saves. The Bison outshot the Crusaders, 15-8.

The Crusaders close out the 2009 regular season on the road, Saturday, Oct. 31 at Patriot League opponent, Army.
