WORCESTER, Mass. - Lehigh goalkeeper Lauren Mains made the save of the day on a breakaway by senior Shelby Stand (Douglas, Mass.) to keep the Holy Cross women's soccer team off the scoreboard and end the game tied in double overtime on Saturday afternoon at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium in Worcester, Mass. With the tie, the Crusaders are now 7-6-2 (1-1-2), while the Mountain Hawks are 7-3-5 (1-1-2).
Holy Cross played Lehigh to a 0-0 tie after 90 minutes, forcing the game into overtime. The Crusaders turned up the intensity, recording four shots in overtime action, but were unable to find the back of the net. Twice in overtime action, Stand received a breakaway pass from freshman Maura Fox (Shrewsbury, Mass.) but was unable to get past Mains. The Mountain Hawks had a chance to end the game with 15 second left in the second overtime when Leah Kulp's corner kick found its way into the net, but the goal was called off due to a foul in the box.
Junior goalkeeper Mary Ferketic (West Hartford, Conn.) recorded five saves on 10 Lehigh shots, while Mains also recorded fives saves on eight Holy Cross shots. Ferketic earned her fourth shutout of the season.
The Crusaders return to action in Worcester on Tuesday, Oct. 20, hosting non-conference opponent Brown at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
