Annapolis, Md. - Two goals in the first half of action led the Navywomen's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Holy Cross in Annapolis, Md. on Sunday afternoon. With the victory, Navy improves to 11-2-2 overall and 2-0-1 in the Patriot League, while the Crusaders fall to 6-6-1 overall and 1-2-0 in Patriot League action.
Navy's Christine Calderon scored the first goal of the afternoon at the 9:50 mark in the first half when she received a pass from Carissa Youker and beat Holy Cross goalkeeper, junior Mary Ferketic (West Hartford, Conn.) to the net. The Mids scored again at the 23:25 mark when Katelyn George scored her first goal of the year in the upper right corner of the net to give Navy the 2-0 lead.
Sophomore Katherine Donnelly (Londonderry, N.H.) led the Crusaders with three shots. Sophomore Liz Early (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) recorded the only Holy Cross shot on goal, but was unable to get past Navy goalkeeper Beth Reed.
Ferketic allowed two goals on nine Navy shots, making three saves. Reed shutout the Crusaders, allowing no goals on eight shots and making one save. The Mids outshot the Crusaders 9-8, while both teams recorded five corner kicks.
The Crusaders return to Worcester on Wednesday, Oct. 14, welcoming Yale to the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
