Holy Cross Womens Soccer Shut Out At American, 2-0
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Goals by Kelsey Brasher and Brooke Sheppard led American to a 2-0 Patriot League victory over the Holy Cross women's soccer team on Friday evening in Washington, D.C. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 6-5-1 (1-1 Patriot League), while American improves to 7-7-0 and remains undefeated in the Patriot League (2-0).
It was a battle of the undefeated, as both teams entered the evening's contest with no League losses. After a scoreless first half, American took the lead at the 52:31 mark when Brasher scored her sixth goal of the season. Brasher recovered the ball off a deflection and scored in the top right corner of the net. The Eagles took the 2-0 lead at the 58:15 mark when Sheppard scored her first goal of the season. The Crusaders had four shots in the second half, but we unable to find the back of the net, falling to American 2-0.
Junior goalkeeper Mary Ferketic (West Hartford, Conn.) allowed two goals and made five saves on 18 American shots. American's goalkeeper Arianna Efstathiou shut out the Crusaders, making three saves on five Holy Cross shots.
The Crusaders continue action on the road on Sunday, Oct. 11, traveling to Navy for a 1:00 p.m. game.
