Women's Soccer Falls To Fairfield, 2-0

WORCESTER, Mass. - Fairfield's Alyssa Decker scored on a corner kick early in the first half to lead the Stags to a 2-0 victory over the Holy Cross women's soccer team Friday night at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium. With the loss, Holy Cross falls to 4-3-1 on the season, while Fairfield improves to 4-3 overall.

Decker headed a corner kick from Nicole Cavallaro into the goal just 3:28 into the game to give Fairfield the early lead. Holy Cross tried to tie the game, outshooting the Stags 9-5 in the first half of action, but was unable to get past Fairfield goalkeeper Kelly Boudreau. The Crusaders closed out the first half down by a score of 1-0.

Fairfield took the 2-0 lead at the 83:16 mark when Jasmin Corniel scored an unassisted goal. The Crusaders outshot the Stags 14-10, as senior Shelby Stand (Douglas, Mass.) recorded five shots, two on goal. Holy Cross was unable get past Boudreau, falling to Fairfield 2-0.

Junior goalkeeper Mary Ferketic (West Hartford, Conn.) made the start in goal for the Crusaders, allowing two goals on ten shots. Boudreau shut out the Crusaders, allowing no goals on 14 Holy Cross shots.

Holy Cross hits the road, traveling to New Hampshire on Thursday, Sept. 24 for game at 7:00 p.m.
