WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross women's soccer team was selected to finish seventh in the 2009 Patriot League preseason poll as voted on by head coaches and sports information directors from around the league. Navy was selected as the preseason favorite with 90 points, while Colgate was picked to finish second with 83 points and Bucknell third with 76 points. 2008 Patriot League tournament champion, Army was voted to finish fourth with 61 points followed by American (50 points), Lehigh (39 points), Holy Cross (35 points) and Lafayette (14 points).
The Crusaders return 21 from last season's squad, including eight starters. Holy Cross also welcomes six newcomers to the team. The Crusaders are set to kick off the 2009 season on Friday, August 28 when they host Massachusetts at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
