Holy Cross Women's Soccer Announces 2009 Team Captains
WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross head women's soccer coach Darren Gallagher has named senior Kendra Demakis (Hanover, Mass.), senior Shelby Stand (Douglas, Mass.) and junior Lauren Wright (Biglerville, Pa.) as captains for the 2009 season.
A defender, Demakis served as a captain during the 2008 season and played in and started all 19 games for the Crusaders. Demakis has made 42 career starts for Holy Cross and played in 49 career games.
A forward, Stand was named to the 2008 All-Patriot League first team and started in 17 games for the Crusaders. Last season, Stand led the Crusaders with five assists, was second on the team with seven goals and tied for first on the team with 19 points. She has recorded 12 career goals and seven assists for 31 career points.
A forward, Wright started in all 19 games for Holy Cross last season and has started in all 37 games of her career as a Crusader. She was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 16, 2008. Wright has recorded nine career goals and three assists for 21 career points.
The Crusaders return 21 letterwinners, 10 of whom were starters, from last year's team. Holy Cross completed the 2008 season with an overall record of 4-14-1 and went 2-4-1 in the Patriot League.
