CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Holy Cross women's rowing senior Megan Seavey (Colorado Springs, Colo.) has been named to the All-Patriot League women's rowing teams, as announced by the conference office. Seavey rowed in the fourth seat of the women's varsity eight team that took fifth at the Patriot League Championships on April 30 at Lake Quinsigamond.
The Patriot League named 11 total members, 10 rowers and one coxswain, to the first ever women's rowing All- League team.
The format for the All-Patriot League women's rowing team is predicated on the team's finish in the varsity eight race at the Patriot League Championship. The first-place team is allowed three rowers and one coxswain, the second-place boat is allowed three rowers and the third-place boat can place two rowers on the All-League team. Both fourth and fifth-place finishers are allowed one rower on the All-Patriot League team.
At the Patriot League Championships, Bucknell took the overall team title followed by, in order, Navy, Colgate, Lehigh and Holy Cross.
Seavey and the varsity eight team finished in a time of 6:54.11 to take fifth overall on April 30. Recently the crew recorded a win over Rhode Island on April 29 with a time of 8:00.3 while rowing on rough water into a strong headwind. The varsity eight team has also recorded wins this spring over Mount Holyoke, Smith, Simmons, Loyola and Connecticut College.
Taking fourth overall in the 2006 Knecht Cup the team finished with a time of 8:00.4, while rowing times of 7:03.6 and 7:40.2 in the heat and semifinal races.
The Holy Cross women's rowing team will be back in action this weekend as they compete in the ECAC Cup on Saturday, May 5 and the New England Championship on Sunday, May 6. Both events will take place at Lake Quinsigamond beginning at 8:00 a.m.
