WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross men's and women's rowing teams hosted several events on Saturday at Lake Quinsigamond. Teams from Trinity, MIT, Massachusetts, Mount Holyoke and New Hampshire took part in a total of nine morning races.
Trinity rowing teams dominated the morning races, winning eight of the nine events that took place on Saturday. Winning all five men's races and three of four women's races, the Bantams put together a great showing.
The Holy Cross women were lead by the performance of their second varsity eight crew which won their race in a time of 7:32.92, edging Smith College by under two seconds.
In the two women's novice races, the Crusaders took second overall to Trinity. Both the women's novice eight and second novice eight were runners-up to Trinity. The first novice eight crew finished with a time of 7:50.29 as the second novice boat took second in a time of 8:13.5.
Holy Cross' varsity eight boat took fourth behind Smith, New Hampshire and Trinity.
For the men, three runner-up finishes highlighted the day. The men's varsity eight (6:11.0) and varsity four (7:21.09) crews each took second behind Trinity. Also, the Crusader men's second varsity eight boat finished behind the Bantams in a time of 6:25.83.
In the men's novice eight race, Holy Cross took third with a time of 6:38.32. Also, the men's second novice eight crew took third with a time of 7:14.3
Next Saturday, April 22 both the Crusader men and women will host teams from Colby, Connecticut, Ithaca and Tufts beginning at 8:00 a.m. at Lake Quinsigamond.
