Worcester, Mass. - The Holy Cross women's rowing team hosted the New England Championship on Sunday, May 6 on Lake Quinsigamond. The Crusaders came in second of the seventeen teams with a total of 82 points, which was close behind Williams at 84 points.
The women's varsity eight competed in the second heat and finished second with a time of 6:50.608. UNH came in first place, just ahead of the Crusaders, at 6:48.761. Coast Guard (6:53.289), Wellesley (7.01.858), and Simmons (7:05.114) closed out the heat. Holy Cross continued on to the Grand Final, where they finished in fifth place at 7:17.294. Ahead of them were Williams at 6:58.624, Trinity at 7:03.924, UNH at 7:09.018, and Bates at 7:09.069. Colby rounded out the race at 7:19.751.
The women's second varsity eight boat raced in the first heat and stroked through the finish line in first place with a time of 7:03.379. Bates (7:08.894), Tufts (7:12.019), Coast Guard (7:19.96), and Smith (7:21.801) followed the Crusaders to complete the race. Holy Cross also took home a first place finish in the Grand Final with a time of 7:13.036. Trinity was next with a time of 7:16.588, followed by Bates at 7:18.981, Williams at 7:20.897, Tufts at 7:26.708, and Wellesley at 7:37.715.
The novice eight finished first in the second heat with a time of 7:26.969. Bowdoin was second and completed the race in 7:28.626, followed by Smith in 7:30.486, Trinity in 7:34.238, UNH in 7:34.482, and Simmons in 8:00.898. Holy Cross continued into the Grand Final, where they came in fourth place with a time of 7:25.161. Mt Holyoke (7:16.423), Williams (7:17.734), and UVM (7:24.498) finished ahead of the Crusaders while Smith (7:30.093) and Bowdoin (7:43.875) rounded out the race behind Holy Cross.
The Holy Cross women's rowing team races for their last weekend on Saturday, May 12 and Sunday, May 13 in the ECAC National Invitational Championship in Whitney Point, NY.
