WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross women's rowing team finished third overall in the New England Championship after capturing second place finishes in the varsity eight, second varsity eight, and third varsity eight races held at Lake Quinsigamond on May 3.
The women's varsity eight boat of Katie Donnelly, Clare Bracikowski, Mara Piltin, Johanna Cubelli, Lis Flaherty, Abby Hammond, Valerie Jackson, Monika Mangsen, and Malgorzata Smas finished second in their race with a time of a 7:03.983 behind Trinity College who earned a first-place finish with a time of 6:54.616. In the grand final race, the varsity eight boat placed fifth with a time of 7:06.753.
The second varsity eight boat of Caroline Krug, Kelly St. Germain, Nicole Gabana, Meredith Malysz, Ashley Fish, Katherine Byrns, Michelle Dwyer, Alexandra Dempsey, and Erika Furtado earned a second-place finish with a time of 7:13.911 as Trinity College earned first place with a time of 7:02.863. In their grand final race, the second varsity eight placed third with a time of 7:12.064.
The Crusaders' third varsity eight boat of Victoria Vergara, Erika Harrington, Andrea Simari, Emily Joseph, Caitlin Rushworth, Allison Kaufman, Mary Kate Cullen, Jennifer Beaudoin, and Jacklyn Jankowski earned second place in the grand final race with a time of 7:21.209. Williams College earned the first-place finish with a time of 7:14.319.
The novice eight boat of Christie Kapothanasis, Shannon Driscoll, Laura Dillon, Tina Milne, Rachel Dutton, Odet Douglass, Liz Flaherty, Claire Moynahan, and Emily Samartino finished fourth in their race with a time of 7:32.292. In the novice eight petite race, the Crusaders clinched first place with a time of 7:28.628.
The Crusaders return to action on May 10-11, when they host the ECAC National Invitational at Lake Quinsigamond.
