Worcester, Mass. - The Holy Cross men's and women's rowing teams took first place in the Patriot League Challenge on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. on Sunday. Holy Cross totaled 43 points in the event beating Colgate, Lehigh, Army and Bucknell. The Crusader varsity eight took first place in the Challenge's premier race, earning 25 points toward the Holy Cross total. The men finished in 5:55.1, narrowly beating a team from Colgate who finished in 5:59.6.
The Holy Cross entry in the men's novice eight won their race, finishing in 6:09.0, earning nine points for Holy Cross. The novice eight beat a team from Bucknell by 7.9 seconds. The men's second varsity eight placed third, crossing the line in 6:17.9, taking home three more points for the Crusaders.
The men's varsity four earned two points taking fourth place with a time of 6:45.6. The men's second novice eight finished in second place with a time of 6:40.1, earning two points.
In the women's events: Holy Cross took third in the women's novice eight with a time of 7:23.6. The women's varsity four took second finishing in 7:55.0 and two more points for Holy Cross.
The Holy Cross women's rowing team will compete at the ECAC Metro Cup Championship on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. on Saturday, May 5. Races are slated to start at 7:00 am.
