CAMDEN, N.J. - The Holy Cross women's rowing team took part in the Knecht Cup on Saturday and Sunday, on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J. Both the varsity eight and the second varsity eight competed in the event.
The varsity eight placed third in the petite final with a time of 6:57.5, to finish in ninth place overall out of 24 boats. The varsity eight boat was made up of coxswain Katie Donnelley, stroke Claire Bracikowski, Mara Piltin, Johanna Cubelli, Lis Flaherty, Monika Mangsen, Valerie Jackson, Abby Hammond, and Gosha Smas. Bucknell claimed first place in the grand finale with a time of 6:35.2, and Colgate won the petite final in a time of 6:52.0. The Holy Cross varsity eight also claimed fourth in its semifinal heat (6:57.5) and third in its opening heat (6:59.5).
The second varsity eight won the petite final in a time of 7:07.7, to place seventh out of 18 teams. The team was made up of coxswain Caroline Krug, stroke Kelly St. Germain, Erika Furtado, Katherine Byrns, Michelle Dwyer, Alexandra Dempsey, Nicole Gabana, Meredith Maylsz, and Ashley Fish. Rhode Island won the grand final in the event with a time of 6:51.6. The Crusader second varsity eight had previously placed fourth in its semifinal heat (7:21.4) and third in its opening heat (7:14.4).
Holy Cross returns to action on Saturday, April 19, when it competes against Colby, Connecticut College, Ithaca and Tufts at Lake Quinisgamond.
