WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross men's and women's rowing teams competed in the Sullivan Cup on Saturday morning for their first home race of the spring season. The men hosted Wesleyan and Coast Guard while the women also faced these teams with the addition of Mt. Holyoke. All of Saturday's nine races were held on Lake Quinsigimond.
The men's varsity eight boat for Holy Cross came in a close second to Wesleyan, finishing just 2.8 seconds behind them with a time of 6:01.3. Coast Guard concluded the race with a time of 6:16.2. The second men's varsity eight finished in first place with 6:10.7, followed by Wesleyan (6:17.3), and Coast Guard (6:21.4). The third men's varsity eight (6:15.3), the novice eight (6:21.5), as well as the second novice eight (6:54.8) boats all finished in first place for the Crusaders.
The women were also successful on Saturday with three first place finishes and one second place. Coast Guard was the first to cross the finish line for the women's varsity eight with a time of 6:56.5. The Crusaders followed closely and completed the race at 6:59.1. Mt. Holyoke followed with 7:09.5 and Wesleyan rounded out the race at 7:15.9. Holy Cross' second women's varsity eight boat was first to cross the finish line at 7:14.0, as was the third varsity eight with 7:32.0, and also the novice eight at 7:22.7.
Holy Cross men's rowing team will return to water on Saturday, April 7 against MIT and Columbia in Boston. The women's team is back in action on Sunday, April 1 against Colgate and University of Massachusetts in Pelham, N.Y.
