WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross women's rowing team hosted its season opening races against Coast Guard, Mt. Holyoke and Wesleyan at Lake Quinnisgamond on Saturday afternoon. The Crusaders' varsity eight and second varsity eight boats placed first in their events.
The varsity eight boat of Katie Donnelly, Clare Bracikowski, Bethany Charron, Johanna Cubelli, Monika Mangsen, Meaghan Pedlow, Nicole Gabana, Abby Hammond and Lis Flaherty placed first in their race with a time of 6:54.0, followed by Wesleyan (6:58.4), Mt. Holyoke (7:07.0) and Coast Guard (7:11.6).
The second varsity eight squad of Laura LeBourdais, Kelly St. Germain, Mara Piltin, Odet Douglass, Maura Hogan, Jaqueline Esperti, Katherine Byrns Meredith Malysz and Malgorzata Smas finished the race with a first place time of 7:21.8, followed by Mt. Holyoke (7:32.0), Coast Guard (7:39.1) and Wesleyan (7:40.4).
Holy Cross' third varsity eight boat of Amanda Woodgate, Callie Gorman, Laura Dillon, Jackie Jankowski, Mary Kate Cullen, Jennifer Beaudoin, Sarah Weinstein, Claire Moynihan and Jessica Ripp placed first with a winning time of 7:27.8, followed Mt Holyoke (7:58.4) and Wesleyan (8:06.8).
The Crusaders' novice boat of Jillian Sollazzo, Eliza Gettel, Caroline Cataldo, Simone Blanchard, Mollie Sydlowski, Katherine Studzinski, Emma Pellerin, Eliza Gettel and Katherine Broderick finished second in its race with a time of 7:59.9. Mt. Holyoke placed first with a time of 7:59.9 while Coast Guard placed third (8:11.4), Wesleyan fourth (8:22.7) and Mt. Holyoke B boat fifth (8:54.6).
The women's rowing team returns to action on Sunday, March 29, hosting Radcliffe and Smith at 8:00 a.m.
