CAMDEN, N.J. - The Holy Cross men's rowing team opened its spring season on Sunday against Georgetown, Loyola and St. Joseph's, while the women's rowing team was also in action taking on Loyola and Villanova. All of Sunday's races took place on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J.
In the men's varsity eight, Holy Cross finished in second place with a time of 6:30.7. Georgetown took first in the race with a time of 6:22.3, while St Joseph's (6:38.7) and Loyola (6:56.9) rounded out the field. In other men's action, the Crusaders finished second in the second varsity eight (6:36.9), second in the lightweight eight (7:10.0) and fourth in the freshman/novice eight (7:09.9).
In the women's varsity eight, Holy Cross won the varsity eight in a time of 7:32.5, beating out second place Villanova (7:34.6) by just over two seconds. The Holy Cross B and C boats took third and fourth place respectively, in times of 7:59.3 and 8:25.6. In other women's races, Holy Cross came in third in the varsity four (9:36.2) and second in the freshman/novice eight (8:12.4).
The Crusaders are scheduled to return to water this Saturday, March 31, on Lake Quinsigimond in Worcester. The men will take part in the Sullivan Cup, while the women will face the Coast Guard, Mount Holyoke and Wesleyan.
