Rebecca Smith Grzybowski Named Head Women’s Rowing Coach At Temple
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Former Crusader rower and 2002 Holy Cross graduate Rebecca Smith Grzybowski has been named the head women's rowing coach at Temple. Smith Grzybowski was an assistant coach at Temple last season. She was an assistant coach at Bucknell for two seasons.
During her time at Holy Cross, Smith Grzybowski served as team captain and was a member of the varsity eight that placed first at the ECAC National Invitational. She also received the Honorable John P. Cooney Memorial Award, as the senior letter winner who performed beyond all expectations with courage, loyalty and dedication. She was also a first team All-New England selection in 2002, as she led the varsity eight to a gold medal at the 2002 Avaya Collegiate Rowing Championship and to a bronze medal at the New England Championship. She then spent two years as an assistant women's rowing coach and program administrator at Holy Cross.
In 2008, Smith Grzybowski finished fourth at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in the lightweight double, won the National Selection Regatta in the lightweight single event, earned gold medals at the Head of the Charles and Head of the Schuylkill, won gold in the lightweight quad and bronze in the open double at the U.S. Elite National Championships, helped her quad boat to a third-place showing at the World Rowing National Championships and earned the Vesper Boat Club Athlete of the Year Award. She finished second in the championship double at the 2006 Head of the Charles, won the 2005 Canadian Henley in the senior lightweight quad and earned a gold medal at the 2002 U.S. National Championships in the lightweight pair.
