Broderick, Charron & Sollazzo Earn CRCA Scholar-Athlete Accolades

WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross women's rowing seniors Kate Broderick (West Newbury, Mass.), Beth Charron (Manchester, N.H.) and Jill Sollazzo (Bethlehem, Pa.) have earned Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) National Scholar-Athlete honors. To be eligible for this honor, the student-athlete needs to have a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher for her career (through the fall semester for the current competition year). The student-athlete also has to be at least a sophomore and rowed in a minimum of 75% of the current spring races or racing in a regional conference event.

Broderick, who also earned this honor last year, is a two-time member of the Patriot League All-Academic team. She is a Biology major and has a 3.75 total grade point average. Broderick is a three-year member of the varsity eight and was a member of the varsity eight in all nine spring regattas this season. The Crusaders placed third at the New England Championship winning a bronze medal. The varsity eight also had two first-place finishes as it won a race versus Simmons and Smith, and a race versus UConn. The Crusaders also placed 13th out of 31 boats at the Knecht Cup, while they were fourth at the Patriot League Championship. Broderick earned 2011 first team All-Patriot League honors and 2010 ECAC/NIRC Stewards' All-Academic team accolades. She is a three-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.

Charron, who is a two-year team captain and a four-year member of the varsity eight, is a Biology major and has a 3.58 total grade point average. This is also the second time she has earned this honor and is a two-time member of the Patriot League All-Academic team. She was also a member of the varsity eight in all nine spring regattas this season. She earned 2010 ECAC/NIRC Stewards' All-Academic team accolades and is a three-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. Charron is a member of Holy Cross' student organization Medical Ministries International as she traveled with the group to Honduras to provide care for those in need.    

Sollazzo, who has been the coxswain of the varsity four in seven spring regattas this season including the silver medal winning team at the New England Championship, is a Psychology major and has a 3.78 total grade point average. She was also a member of the boat that placed third out of 16 teams at the club eight race at the 41st Head of the Schuylkill Regatta in the fall season. Sollazzo was a member of the varsity four that placed third at the 2011 Patriot League Championship. This year she was selected to the Patriot League All-Academic team. She earned 2010 ECAC/NIRC Stewards' All-Academic team accolades and is a three-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
