WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross women's rowing junior captain Beth Charron (Manchester, N.H.) and junior Kate Broderick (West Newbury, Mass.) have been named to the inaugural Patriot League Rowing All-Academic team. The Crusaders are two of 11 athletes named to the first-ever team.

She was a member of the Holy Cross "A" boat in the pair race and a member of the open heavy championship eight boat at the 40th Schuylkill Regatta as the team tied for first out of 39 teams for the point trophy. Also this season she rowed for the varsity eight that placed first versus Boston College and Connecticut to win the Irving-Christensen Cup, defeated UMass in a dual-race, placed fourth at the Patriot League Championship and fifth at the New England Championship. Charron earned 2010 ECAC/NIRC Stewards' All-Academic team accolades. She rowed with the varsity eight in all 14 races as a sophomore, while she was also a member of the varsity eight as a freshman as the Crusaders placed third at the Patriot League Championship. Charron is a two-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. She is a member of Holy Cross' student organization Medical Ministries International as last summer she traveled with the group to Honduras to provide care for those in need.

Kate Broderick Broderick, who recently earned first team All-Patriot League accolades, is a Biology major and has a 3.80 total average. She has been a member of the varsity eight in all nine spring regattas. She was also a member of the open four and open heavy championship eight boats at the Schuylkill Regatta. She was on the varsity eight that defeated Simmons in a dual-race, placed first versus Boston College and Connecticut to win the Irving-Christensen Cup, defeated UMass in a dual-race, placed fourth at the Patriot League Championship and finished fifth at the New England Championship. The All-Academic team has been added for all sports beginning in the 2010-2011 season to honor additional student-athletes who excel both on and off the field. To be eligible the athlete has to have at least a 3.20 total grade point average. The athlete also is a starter or a key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor. The team is voted on by women's rowing sports information directors around the conference who could not vote for their own student-athletes.

The Crusaders return to action on Lake Quinsigamond on Sunday, May 8, when they compete at the ECAC National Invitational at 8:00 a.m.
