WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross sophomore rower Catherine Roy (Holliston, Mass.) has been invited to the 2011 Women's National Team Pre-Elite Camp as announced by USRowing. She is just one of 18 rowers to be selected. Last year, Roy was one of 16 rowers invited to attend the U.S. National Team Freshman Camp.
The camp will start on June 12 at Syracuse University and will be run by Justin Moore, women's head coach at Syracuse. The camp is focused on developing athletes for the under 23 and senior national teams. The goal of this camp is to teach skills necessary to compete at the elite level by introducing and developing sculling, focusing on small boats, gaining fitness and increasing strength-to-weight ratio. Athletes will have the opportunity to race at the 2011 USRowing Club National Championship on July 13-17 in Indianapolis, Ind.
Roy has rowed with the Holy Cross varsity eight in 18 races in her first two seasons.
The Crusaders, who won five of seven races in their opening weekend of competition, return to action on Lake Quinsigamond on Saturday, April 9, versus Mt. Holyoke, Smith and Trinity at 9:00 a.m. Go here for the schedule.
