Women's Rowing Names 2010-2011 Team Captains

WORCESTER, Mass. The Holy Cross women's rowing program has named senior Katherine Byrns (Manhasset, N.Y.), senior Jackie Jankowski (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and junior Beth Charron (Manchester, N.H.) as 2010-2011 team captains. Also, graduating senior Ashley Fish (Hingham, Mass.) earned the 2009-2010 Crewsader Award, which is the team's MVP/Unsung Hero award.

As members of the second varsity eight, Fish and Byrns rowed in all 11 competitions this spring season. They were members of a crew that earned a silver medal by placing second at the New England Championship on May 1. At the Patriot League Championship on April 25, the second varsity eight placed third, while it finished fifth in the grand finals at the ECAC National Invitational on May 9. They were members of a boat that won a race versus Mount Holyoke, Wesleyan and Coast Guard on March 27, while on March 28, they were a part of a team that took first against Simmons and Smith. As a freshman, Fish was a member of the second varsity eight that won the 2007 New England Championship. Also as a freshman she was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. As a sophomore, Byrns was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.

Jankowski was a member of the third varsity eight and the varsity four this season. She was a member of a third varsity eight that won a race versus Simmons and Smith on March 28. In the open four grand finals at the ECAC National Invitational on May 9, she was a member of a boat that placed fourth. As a sophomore she was named to the 2009 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.

Charron rowed for the varsity eight in all 11 competitions this spring season. She was a member of a boat that placed fifth at the Patriot League Championship and the New England Championship, while the varsity eight won the petite finals at the ECAC National Invitational. She was also a member of a varsity eight boat that won a race versus Mount Holyoke, Wesleyan and Coast Guard on March 27, placed first versus Smith and Simmons on March 28 and finished second as Boston College finished first and UConn placed third on April 18. Charron was also named to the 2010 ECAC/NIRC Stewards' All-Academic Team and was a member of the 2009 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.

This season, the Crusaders placed 13th at the ECAC National Invitational, second at the New England Championship and third at the Patriot League Championship.
