WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross athletic director Richard M. Regan, Jr., and rowing program director and head women's rowing coach Patrick Diggins have announced the women's schedule for the 2010 spring season. The Crusaders will compete in eight events on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester.
"The team is excited about our racing season after a long winter in the Hart Center," said Diggins. "Spring training in Cocoa Beach reminded us of how much we want to and need to train on the water. We hope Mother Nature is kind to us and the ice melts quickly on Lake Quinsigamond. While we have a large, strong group of seniors the majority of the varsity squad is freshmen and sophomores. They'll quickly get some great racing experience in our traditional dual races. Our goal from day one this fall has been to have a strong showing at the Patriot League Championship followed by strong showings at the New England Championship and the ECACs."
The Crusaders will compete on Lake Quinsigamond on every weekend of the season except for the weekend of the Patriot League Championship. Holy Cross will kick off the season when it meets Coast Guard, Mount Holyoke and Wesleyan (March 27), and then Smith and Simmons (March 28). The Crusaders will then take on Williams, New Hampshire, UMass and MIT (April 3). On April 10-11, the varsity eight will travel to Camden, N.J. to compete at the Knecht Cup, while on April 10 the second varsity eight, the third varsity eight and the novice eight will row versus Smith and Trinity at Lake Quinsigamond. Holy Cross will conclude its dual-race schedule against Connecticut College, Ithaca, Tufts, Wesleyan and Williams (April 17), and Boston College and UConn (April 18). On April 25, the Crusaders will compete at the Patriot League Championship in Camden, while they will be back in Worcester for the New England Championship (May 1) and the ECAC National Invitational (May 8-9).
