Sept. 28, 2005
Worcester, Mass. - Holy Cross athletic director Richard M. Regan, Jr. and head women's lacrosse coach Stephanie Pavlick announced this week the schedule for the Crusaders' 2006 season.
Holy Cross will start the year with a 1:00 p.m. match-up against the University of Massachusetts on Saturday, February 25 before traveling to New Hampshire for a 3:30 p.m. battle with the Wildcats on February 28.
The Crusaders will then spend a week in Florida where they will play a handful of games during Spring Break against teams that will be announced at a later date.
Holy Cross then heads to Pennsylvania where it begins its Patriot League schedule with a 12:00 p.m. game at Villanova. Home games against George Mason on the 16th and conference foe Bucknell on the 19th highlight the mid-March portion of the schedule. The Crusaders then travel to Lehigh on March 25 before hosting back-to-back home games against Siena (Mar. 29) and Lafayette (Apr. 1).
Trips to Yale (Apr. 5) and American (Apr. 8) have HC on the road in early April, but the Purple and White come back to Worcester for non-conference games with Fairfield (Apr. 12) and Oregon (Apr. 13). The HC/Orgeon game is slated for a 7:00 p.m. start at the Hart Center Astroturf.
A 6:30 p.m. match-up with Boston College at Chestnut Hill is the Crusaders' final tune-up before meeting up with Colgate University on April 21. Last season, Colgate defeated Holy Cross in the championship game of the Patriot League Tournament and spoiled its bid for an NCAA appearance.
In 2005, the Crusaders finished second in the Patriot League with a 4-2 mark in conference play and earned the number two seed in the conference tournament. They advanced to the program's second-ever championship game after an 11-10 win over American in the quarterfinals of the tournament. Holy Cross was one of just two teams to post a winning record (10-9 overall, 4-2 PL) in the seven-team Patriot League last season.
