WORCESTER, Mass. - Junior midfielder Patricia Sutton (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) has been named the Holiday Inn Express Crusader of the Week, for competition from May 1-7. Sutton led the Holy Cross women's lacrosse team to a 14-8 victory over Le Moyne in the NCAA play-in game, earning the Crusaders their first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament.
During the victory over Le Moyne, Sutton led the team in scoring with four goals and two assists. She scored the first two goals of the game in the opening six minutes of play, as Holy Cross built an early 4-0 lead. Sutton later scored two of the Crusaders' first three goals in the second half, as they increased their 7-3 halftime advantage to an insurrmountable 13-3 lead.
On the year, Sutton leads the team in scoring with 74 points on 53 goals and 21 assists, setting a new school record for most points in a single season. Over the course of her career as a Crusader, she has totaled 157 goals and 58 assists for 215 points.
The Holy Cross women's lacrosse team returns to action this Saturday, May 13, in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. The pairings for the NCAA Tournament will be announced tonight, May 8, at 8:00 p.m.
The is the final Holiday Inn Express Crusader of the Week selection of the 2005-2006 school year. The award will return in September of 2006.
