WORCESTER, Mass. - The Hart Turf on the campus of the College of the Holy Cross will be the site of the 2006 Patriot League women's lacrosse tournament, beginning this weekend. The top-seeded Crusaders earned hosting rights after going 6-0 in conference play this season, and knocking off defending champion, Colgate, 9-7, last Friday.
Holy Cross will face fourth-seeded Bucknell at noon on Saturday, April 29. The second semifinal game of the day will have second-seeded and back-to-back champion, Colgate square up against third-seeded American at 3:00 p.m. The tournament championship game will be held on Sunday, April 30, at 1:00 p.m.
The Patriot League champion will advance to the NCAA Play-In-Game, where it will face the MAAC tournament champion on Saturday, May 6.
Holy Cross has twice been runner-up in the Patriot League Tournament (2001, 2005), but has never won a title. The program picked up its first-ever regular season title this season, after going undefeated in league play and snapping Colgate's 22-game conference winning streak, which dated back to the 2003 season.
The Crusaders finished the regular season with an 11-6-0 record, marking the second consecutive season the team has finished with 10 or more wins and above the .500 mark. The team's 11 wins also tie as the second most successful season in Holy Cross women's lacrosse history.
