CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Holy Cross junior goalie Megan Orr (Wilton, Conn.) and junior midfielder Patricia Sutton (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) were named the Patriot League Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, respectively, for games through April 23, as announced by league officials this afternoon. This is Orr's second Player of the Week award this season, while Sutton picks up her fourth honor.
Sutton scored five goals and added an assist in a 1-1 week for the Crusaders. Sutton scored two of the team's five goals in Holy Cross' 9-5 loss to Boston College of the ACC, and tallied three goals and an assist in the team's 9-7 win over Colgate to capture the 2006 Patriot League regular season crown. The Crusaders snapped Colgate's 22-game conference winning streak, which dated back to 2003 and also put an end to Colgate's bid for a third straight regular season title. In addition, Holy Cross snapped a personal three-game losing streak to the Raiders.
With her four-point outing against Colgate, Sutton surpassed the 200-career point mark, making her just the second player (Jen Amendola '01) in Holy Cross history to accomplish such a feat. She currently has 203 career points, which ranks ninth in Patriot League history.
Sutton has 10 hat tricks this season and has scored three or more goals in four of her last five games. She leads the team in goals (45 goals), assists (17 assists) and points (62 points). She also ranks first in the league in goals.
Orr recorded her 11th win of the season after coming up big against Colgate, making 17 saves in helping lead Holy Cross to its first-ever regular season championship. She also held the Raiders' leading goal scorer to just one goal on Friday afternoon.
The junior goalkeeper faced 66 shots in two games last week, making 34 saves between starts against the Raiders and Boston College.
The 2005 Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year had also surpassed the 200-save mark for the second straight season. She finished the regular season with 208 saves this year, and totaled 208 saves last year.
In addition, Orr owns a 9.03 goals against average and 57.3 save percentage.
