Worcester, Mass. - Two Holy Cross women's lacrosse players earned Patriot League weekly awards for their play in the Crusaders' 2-0 week last week. Sophomore goalie Megan Orr was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week, and freshman attack Kristine Corkum was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week. Both awards are firsts for Orr and Corkum.
Orr led Holy Cross to wins over Vermont and American last week, helping the Crusaders improve to 8-5 overall, and 4-1 in the league. She registered 18 saves for the week while posting a .545 save percentage. Her 7.49 goals-against average leads the League. The Connecticut native is also ranked in the top 10 nationally in two statistical categories. She is currently second in the nation with a .592 save percentage and 10th with a 7.49 goals-against average. Orr has started all 13 games for the Crusaders this season and is 8-5-0.
Corkum came off the bench to score five goals and add an assist in HC's 2-0 week, which saw an 11-6 victory over Vermont and a 12-9 win versus American. The freshman attack from Ipswich, Mass. had a hat trick in the Crusader's upset of the Eagles on Sunday. She is currently fourth on the team in scoring with 10 goals and five assists for 15 points.
Holy Cross has now won four of the six Rookie of the Week awards this season.
The Crusaders, who have won three straight and eight of their last 10 games, travel to Fairfield for a 4:00 match-up with the Stags on Wednesday, April 13.
