Center Valley, Pa. - Holy Cross juniors Patricia Sutton (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and Megan Orr (Wilton, Conn.) were named as the Patriot League Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, for games through February 26, as announced by league officials today. This is the conference's first edition of weekly awards in the young season.
A junior midfielder, Sutton totaled three goals, one assist, six groundballs and two caused turnovers in the Crusaders' season-opening 11-8 win over Massachusetts on Saturday afternoon. Sutton led the Crusaders in goals, shots (seven total shots; five on goal) and points in the win. Her first tally of the day broke a 1-1 tie 13 minutes into the contest. Her second goal began the scoring in the second half and pushed the Crusaders' lead to six goals (7-1). Sutton's final tally of the game capped off Holy Cross' scoring and gave the Crusaders an 11-2 edge with 2:06 remaining in the contest.
Orr, the 2005 Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year, earned her first career award this week after turning away eight of the 16 Minutemen shots she faced in Saturday's win.
Holy Cross takes the field again on Monday, March 6, when it travels to Wellington, Fla., for a 9:00 a.m., contest against Sacred Heart during Spring Break games. The Crusaders are currently 2-1 this season.
