WORCESTER, Mass. - In the first week of 2007women's lacrosse competition, Holy Cross took two Patriot League weekly awards with Kristine Corkum (Ipswich, Mass.) and Megan Orr (Wilton, Conn.) earning player and goalkeeper accolades, respectively while freshman midfielder Megan Fenton (Bridgewater, N.J.), senior midfielder Patricia Sutton (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and junior defender Cara O'Sullivan (Duxbury, Mass.) all received honorable mention for their performances last week.
Junior Corkum scored the first goal for Holy Cross to lead the team back from a 5-0 deficit against UMass. Overall, she netted four goals including the game-winner with just over one minute left in the game. The Crusaders beat UMass, 7-6.
Facing 27 shots, senior Orr made 17 saves in the one-point victory over UMass. The senior keeper allowed only one goal in the second half to help the team recover from a 5-0 deficit.
Fenton recorded her first career caused turnover and assist while Sutton netted two goals and had one assist for three points in the Crusaders only game last week. O'Sullivan picked up three ground balls and had no turnovers in the 7-6 win over UMass.
The Crusaders are back in action today as they play host to New Hampshire at 3:00 p.m. at the Hart Astro Turf.
