CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - The Holy Cross women's lacrosse team has been picked second in the 2008 Patriot League preseason poll as voted on by head coaches and sports information directors from around the league. American was picked to finish first as it earned six first place votes and 64 total points. Holy Cross also had six first place votes, while it received 62 total points. Colgate (45 total points and two first place votes) was picked to finish third, followed by Lehigh (40 total points), Bucknell (30 total points), Navy (30 total points) and Lafayette (23 total points). Lehigh's Inneke Carmola was named the league's Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, while American's Caitlin Bell was named the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
The Crusaders kick off the 2008 season when they play at UMass in Amherst, Mass., on Tuesday, February 19 at 3:00 p.m. This season, Holy Cross will be seeking its third straight Patriot League regular season and tournament championships, along with its third consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament. The Crusaders return 18 letterwinners, including eight starters, while they welcome 12 freshmen to a team that went 13-6 overall and a perfect 5-0 in the Patriot League in 2007. Holy Cross also returns five players who received all-Patriot League honors a year ago.
