WORCESTER, Mass. - The top-seeded Holy Cross women's lacrosse team advanced to its second straight Patriot League Tournament title game with a 13-7 victory over fourth-seeded Bucknell in the Patriot League Tournament semifinals on Saturday afternoon at the Hart Turf. Holy Cross improves to 12-6 overall, while the Bison conclude their season with a 7-10 record.

Patricia Sutton, the 2006 Patriot League Player of the Year, and Carolyn Smirti, a First Team All-League selection, led Holy Cross with three goals each. For Sutton, it was her 11th hat trick of the season. She has scored three or more goals in five of the last six games.

Senior Melissa Conley (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) added two goals for the Crusaders, who also got scores from Kristine Corkum (Ipswich, Mass./Ipswich), Cara O'Sullivan (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury), Amy Archambault (West Hartford, Conn./Conard), Sheila Rom (Raleigh, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons), and Kaitlin Nangle (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles).

Holy Cross opened the scoring with an unassisted effort from Sutton less than three minutes into the game. Bucknell evened the score less than two minutes later a goal from Jackie Bodnar at the 25:52 minute mark, but the Crusaders went on a 4-0 run over the next 14 minutes of play to take a commanding 5-1 lead. Both Conley and Smirti scored twice during the run.

Bodnar netted an unassisted tally with 6:23 left to play in the half, cutting the Crusader lead to three (5-2), but Archambault closed out the period with a score off a free position shot, with just over a minute remaining to give the Crusaders a 6-2 lead at the break.

Bodnar started the second with a goal off of a pass from Bonnie Buechel just 10 seconds into the half. But Sutton scored consecutive goals and Corkum added a score to keep the Crusaders on top, 9-3. Bodnar tallied her fourth goal of the game after a feed from Buechel at the 19:18 mark to get within four (9-5), but the Bison would not get any closer, as Holy Cross answered with three straight goals to take a 12-5 lead.

Lauren Deitrich and Bodnar tallied the final two Bison goals within a 12 second span to cut the lead back to five (12-7), but the Crusaders got another insurance goal with a mark from Rom at the 2:57 mark to close out the game.

Holy Cross keeper Megan Orr (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) made seven saves for the Crusaders, while Lizzy McDaniel totaled seven for the Bison.

Bucknell freshman Jackie Bodnar turned in a season-high five goals to lead Bucknell offensively.

Holy Cross will face second-seeded Colgate on Sunday, April 30, at 1:00 p.m., in Worcester, Mass. Colgate defeated third-seeded American, 12-7 in the other semifinal.

Just last week, Holy Cross defeated Colgate, 9-7, to capture the Patriot League Regular Season title and the right to host this weekend's tournament. Colgate has won back-to-back Patriot League Tournament titles.
