WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior midfielder Patricia Sutton (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) scored three goals and had one assist to lead the first seeded Holy Cross women's lacrosse team over the fourth seeded Colgate 9-6 in the Patriot League semifinal game Friday at Hart Astroturf.
Megan Fenton (Bridgewater, N.J.) had two goals while Nikki Bolduc (Exeter, N.H.), Kristine Corkum (Ipswich, Mass.), Ali Baird (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Cashel Scanlon (Bethesda, Md.) each added a goal. Bolduc recorded two assists while Kaitlin Nangle (Skaneateles, N.Y.), Amy Archambault (West Hartford, Conn.) had one assist.
The game was scoreless for the first 12 minutes of play until Corkum put one away for the Crusaders on a free position shot. Colgate answered on a free position shot at 13:44 to tie the game at one. The Raiders went ahead 2-1 minutes later, but Sutton tied it up again with just under 11 minutes left in the first half (2-2). Both teams took the lead once more before knotting the game at four to go into halftime.
Holy Cross scored the first two goals of the second half as Sutton put one away unassisted and Fenton scored from Archambualt to take a two point lead for the first time in the game, 6-4. The Raiders and Crusaders exchanged the next four goals (8-6) with goals from Sutton and Scanlon. Fenton scored one more for Holy Cross with less than two minutes left to win the game by three, 9-6.
Senior Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year Megan Orr (Wilton, Conn.) had 11 stops on 26 shots to record the win for the Crusaders.
Holy Cross will face the winner of the Lehigh and American game Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Hart Astroturf.
