Hamilton, N.Y. - The Colgate women's lacrosse team defeated Holy Cross, 9-8 on Saturday afternoon at Tyler's Field to capture the 2005 Patriot League regular season title. The Crusaders finish the regular season with a 9-7 overall mark and a 4-2 record in Patriot League play, good for second place. With the win, Colgate (11-5, 6-0) has earned the right to host next weekend's postseason tournament.

Sophomore Patricia Sutton and junior Carolyn Smirti scored two goals each to lead the Crusaders, who also got goals from freshmen Kristine Corkum, Amy Archambault, Nikki Bolduc and Kaitlin Nangle.

With 13 minutes remaining in the first half and the game tied at 2-2, the Raiders went on a 4-1 run to close out the half and go into the break up, 6-3.

Holy Cross outscored the Raiders, 5-3 in the second half, and put two scores on the board in the final 1:23, but it was not enough.

Both teams recorded 29 shots on the day. Sophomore goalie Megan Orr made 12 saves for the Crusaders, while Sue Bielamowicz had 15 stops in the win for Colgate.

Holy Cross will be the second seed in next weekend's Patriot League tournament, which will also be played at Tyler's field.
