HAMILTON, N.Y. - Freshman Megan Fenton (Bridgewater, N.J.) scored four goals to lead the Holy Cross women's lacrosse team past Colgate 11-5 in conference action Saturday at Tyler's Field. The Crusaders finish regular season play 5-0 in the conference and 11-5 overall.
Amy Archambault (West Hartford, Conn.), Patricia Sutton (Saratoga Spring, N.Y.) and Ali Baird (Wilbraham, Mass.) scored two goals each while Kristine Corkum (Ipswich, Mass.) had four assists and added one goal.Sutton also had one assist.
Colgate started off the game scoring the first two goals. Holy Cross followed up exchanging the next four goals as the Raiders went into halftime with a 4-2 advantage. Colgate out shot Holy Cross 13-5 in the first half.
After the break, the Crusaders came out strong scoring nine goals, the first one from Baird followed by Sutton, Corkum, and Baird to gain a 6-4 lead. Fenton scored four straight goals to give the Crusaders a six point advantage with less than five minutes left in the game. Sutton scored one more goal as Holy Cross held the Raiders to just one goal in the second half to win the game 11-5. The Crusaders out shot the Raiders in the second half 11-4.
Senior goalkeeper Megan Orr (Wilton, Conn.) had seven blocks on 17 shots to record the win for the Crusaders.
Last week Holy Cross, clinched the No. 1 seed and the right to host the Patriot League Championship April 27 and 29. The Crusaders will face the fourth seeded Colgate Friday at 1:00 p.m. while the two seeded Lehigh will face the third seeded American at 4:00 p.m.
