WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior midfielder Patricia Sutton (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and junior attack Kristine Corkum (Ipswich, Mass.) scored three goals each as the Holy Cross women's lacrosse team defeated Lehigh 17-4 in conference play Saturday at the Hart Astroturf. With the win the Crusaders earned the right to host the Patriot League Tournament improving to 4-0 in the league and 10-4 overall while Lehigh falls to 2-2 in the conference and 6-7 on the season.
Juniors Nikki Bolduc (Exeter, N.H.), Kaitlin Nangle (Skaneateles, N.Y.) and Amy Archambault (West Hartford, Conn.) and freshmen Megan Fenton (Bridgewater, N.J.) and Amy Baird (Wilbraham, Mass.) scored two goals each while Kaitlyn Curley (New York City, N.Y.) scored her second goal of the season. Sutton handed out three assists while Nangle and Archambault had two and Bolduc recorded one. Senior defender Darcy Wolcott (Concord, N.H.) recorded two caused turnovers and picked up four groundballs for the Crusaders.
Holy Cross scored 10 goals in the opening 20 minutes of the first half as Corkum led the way with three goals to help the Crusaders take a significant lead early in the game. Lehigh scored just one goal in the first 30 minutes of play as Holy Cross went into the break with a 13-1 advantage.
Lehigh started off the second half scoring first, and scored two more, but Holy Cross put away four additional goals to win the game 17-4.
Senior goalkeeper Megan Orr (Wilton, Conn.) had nine stops on 19 shots for the win. Holy Cross out shot Lehigh 28-19.
The Crusaders will play host to Connecticut Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at the Hart Astroturf.
