Holy Cross Women's Lacrosse Defeats American, 15-5

WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior goalie Megan Orr (Wilton, Conn.) made 11 saves to break the Holy Cross all-time career saves record and freshman Megan Fenton (Bridgewater, N.J.) scored four goals as the Holy Cross women's lacrosse team defeated American, 15-5, in Patriot League action on Saturday afternoon at the Hart Astroturf Field. With the win, the Crusaders improve to 7-3 overall (2-0 Patriot League), while the Eagles fall to 5-5 overall (1-1 Patriot League).
Fenton also had an assist for a five-point game. Junior Amy Archambault (West Hartford, Conn.) recorded three goals and had one assist for the Crusaders, while senior Patricia Sutton (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) posted two goals and one assist. Junior Kaitlin Nangle (Skaneateles, N.Y.) had three points with one goal and two assists, while junior Kristine Corkum (Ipswich, Mass.) and freshman Ali Baird (Wilbraham, Mass.) each scored two goals. Junior Nikki Bolduc (Exeter, N.H.) added a goal for Holy Cross.
American was led by Caithlin Gorman and Gina Ibello who each had two goals, while Jackie Lane chipped in with one.
The Crusaders scored 10 goals in the first half and held the Eagles to two. Holy Cross jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals by Archambault and Fenton, while the Eagles cut the lead in half with a goal by Ibello. The Crusaders would then go onto score five straight goals to increase their lead to 7-1 with goals by Corkum, Fenton, two goals by Baird and one from Sutton. After a goal by American's Jackie Lane, Holy Cross ended the half with three consecutive goals with one each from Nangle, Bolduc and Fenton.
In the second half Holy Cross received two goals from Archambault and one each from Corkum, Sutton and Fenton.
Orr now has 754 career saves breaking the record of 750. Kristine Vida stopped 10 shots for the Eagles. Holy Cross outshot American by a 33-21 margin.
The Crusaders return to action on Wednesday, April 4, when they host Yale at 3:00 p.m.
