PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Three Crusaders scored two goals each, but it was not enough as the Brown women's lacrosse team edged Holy Cross, 9-8, in non-conference action Tuesday. The Bears gave the Crusaders their third loss of the season (6-3) while improving to 3-5 overall.
Amy Archambault (West Hartford, Conn.), Megan Fenton (Bridgewater, N.J.) and Patricia Sutton (Saratoga Spring, N.Y.) scored two goals each while Nikki Bolduc (Exeter, N.H.) and Ali Baird (Wilbraham, Mass.) added one.
Holy Cross scored the first three goals of the game before 15 minutes expired and held off Brown until they scored with 4:12 left in the first half and again with less than two minutes to go in the half, but the Crusaders kept a 4-2 advantage going into the break.
The Bears scored in the first two minutes of the second half to make it a one point game (4-3). Sutton scored her second goal of the game and 31st of the season before Brown scored four unanswered goals in a six minute span to take a 7-5 lead with just over 10 minutes left in the game. Holy Cross was unable to regain the lead as the two teams exchanged the last five goals, but Brown held on to win, 9-8.
Goalkeeper Megan Orr had 11 saves on 24 shots for the Crusaders while Melissa King recorded the win for the Bears with 11 stops on 23 shots.
After three straight road games, Holy Cross returns home to play American Saturday at 12:00 in conference action.
