EASTON, Pa. - Patricia Sutton (Saratoga Spring, N.Y) scored five goals and had two assists to lead the Holy Cross women's lacrosse team past Lafayette, 17-6, in its first conference game of the season Saturday. The Crusaders improve to 6-2 on the season while Lafayette falls to 0-7 overall.
Eight Crusaders had a hand in the 17 goals scored by Holy Cross. Kristine Corkum (Ipswich, Mass.) scored four goals and handed out two assists while Amy Archambault (West Hartford, Conn.) and Megan Fenton (Bridgewater, N.J.) put away two goals each. Sheila Rom (Raleigh, N.C.), Nikki Bolduc (Exeter, N.H.), Kaitlin Nangle (Skaneateles, N.Y.) and Jenna Constantino (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) each added a goal and combined for four assists.
Junior attack Corkum scored three of her goals in the first half while junior attack Archambault and senior midfielder Sutton had two. Nangle and Constantino added a goal each to allow the Crusaders to take a 9-3 advantage going into the break.
Sutton led Holy Cross in the second half with three goals as freshman midfielder Fenton had two and junior midfielder Rom, junior attack Bolduc and junior attack Corkum contributed one each.
The Crusaders held the Leopards to just three goals in each half. Goalkeeper Megan Orr (Wilton, Conn.) recorded the win with 14 stops on 26 shots and picked up three groundballs.
Holy Cross is back in action Tuesday when they travel to play a non-conference game vs. Brown at 3:30 p.m.
