Women's Lacrosse Dominates Nova

Villanova, Pa. - Junior standout Patricia Sutton scored four goals and sophomore Nikki Bolduc added three of her own to lead the Holy Cross women's lacrosse team to a 15-5 drubbing of Villanova on Sunday afternoon in Patriot League action at Villanova Stadium. The Crusaders improve to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in Patriot League play with the team's first conference victory of the season. The Wildcats fall to 2-4 overall (0-1 Patriot League).

Villanova opened the scoring just one minute into the contest, but the Crusaders answered with a 14-1 run to put the game away. Three of Villanova's goals came in the final minutes of play.

Senior co-captain Carolyn Smirti added two scores for Holy Cross, which had nine total players in the scoring column.

The Wildcats took their only lead of the game just 57 seconds into the contest when Christina Bahrs found the back of the net. But five minutes later, the Crusaders began the onslaught with four consecutive goals. Villanova cut the lead to two (4-2) after a Taylor Lucy tally at the 18:02 mark, but three more Holy Cross goals made the score 7-2 at the break.

The second half began with seven straight Crusader tallies, including goals by Melissa Conley, Jacque Hastings, Cara O'Sullivan and two by both Bolduc and Sutton.

Holy Cross outshot Villanova 26-16, and picked up 42 groundballs to the Wildcats' 30.

Junior goalie Megan Orr registered the win with seven saves for the Crusaders.

Holy Cross plays host to George Mason on Thursday, March 16, at 3:30 PM.
